Proper Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance

Proper prior planning - what can really be done without this element of decision making and goal setting?

What arrangements are in place to assist with our cause?

Do we have the resources to fulfill our obligations?

What preparations have gone on before we came on the scene or are we in at the start of this new venture?

Are we good at ground work or do we leave that to others? We only like the glory and not the hard work. Only want the reward and not the toil. The benefits without the efforts to achieve them.

What might we need

  • an idea of the end product - so together we can add substance and claim it as ours
  • a design - so we can all pull in the same direction
  • a system - so we all know what we are doing and when and in which order
  • a scheme of operation - the way ahead
  • a program of needs and efforts - so we don't all go off in an uncoordinated way
  • a strategy for resources - to show that they are available, willing and able to work with us (and we may be a part of this)
  • to start from a good and solid foundation

And what else

  • methods to follow for each stage of development
  • allow for suggestions from those involved, which may say much time and effort
  • a road map for the journey ahead, so we know when we are needed and what we should be doing

all in all a blueprint of where we are going and what we hope to achieve.

And what else - among many other things -

  • determination
  • conviction
  • dedication
  • persistence
  • resolve

and team work to get the job done.

And the planning stage

  • may be on the back of an envelope
  • may be a formal document and signed off
  • may be just in our head
  • may be written down
  • may be visualized for better effect

may take a few minutes or even moments (I want a cup of tea, do you?) to weeks or months (a big housing development - or building your own new house).

And if it is just us important to have a good, firm and solid basis or foundation for a small task or a big one.

Proper prior planning needs someone to manage and control - in a loose or tight way, depending upon the circumstances.
