Managing change is one of the challenges of modern day life. We need to meet the stresses and the uncertainties head on to reap the benefits of the change management process. The challenges and the demands, the choices and the transformations, all add to our task in managing any resistance to change we may meet or encounter. By adopting the right change management approach, our efforts can enable us to side step the role that chance, luck and stray circumstance. So what can we do to make managing change a success? What is managing change in general terms? - learning from our experiences - we've met it before and 'survived'
- realizing that others can help - that we are not alone
- understanding that change is not out to get us - though it might appear that way at times
- being able to conduct ourselves in a thoughtful and caring way during stressful experiences
- realizing that we cannot control all of the elements in the life we lead
- learning that humility in the face of life is a real asset and bonus
- not forgetting our value system in the height of 'the battle of change'
- knowing that if others can do something then so can we
- accepting at times the inevitable without a big fight - reserve our energies for the life ahead
- finding out that if our life is a muddle and in disarray that change, though unwelcome, may actually help us resolve some of our issues
- understanding that we are not fragile and will not break at the first winds of change
- finding out that subtlety and directness both have a part to play in how we handle life and change
And a big one - realizing and experiencing that we invariably have the strength - or are given the strength - to meet life and its challenges. We just need to be aware of its presence.
