Show Humility In Your Life - And Be Respected By Others And Yourself

We all admire humility in other people, but do we have this trait ourselves?

What is it to be humble in life?

Is it to be submissive, self-effacing, unassuming? Or is it to be proud of what you do, but in a quiet non-boastful and modest way?

Or is just to live a life good and true?

To be happy and comfortable being you. Not feeling lowly or out or your rightful place. Knowing your importance and contribution.

No one wants to be walked upon and that may be what we feel that humility gets us.

To be looked down upon for showing weakness, not accepted for keeping to our principles and standards. Is that their weakness and our strength - what do you think?

If we take being humble to we weak, easily broken, low, put down, subdued - what does that say about us?

Should we not see the person showing humility as a virtuous person, one who thinks of and about others? And is that not a good thing, and something to be admired?

But at times our thoughts might be a little off key. We might be swayed by others, sometimes against our better judgment.

At times we can question and wonder. We think about what is really happening in our life.

What we are doing. What we are involved in. What direction our life is going in. Do we trust our own thoughts or do we question those also? At times like these words can be very powerful - healing, soothing, comforting, relaxing . . .

The power of words . . .

We can let the words quietly be spoken to us in there own sweet way. We can let ourselves open to the thoughts and their meanings, the ideas and their origin, the phrases and the understandings that they have ready for us.

I hope this humility page will do this and more. I hope these humility examples will help to express life in an insightful, penetrating but easy to read manner. And help us to question the lives we lead and the manner in which we live them.

Humility is at the heart of freedom
that way your life will become
something of which you can be fully satisfied
nothing less will do nor is it implied

If you live by successful means
demand more of yourself not just routines
to get all of your tasks done
no need from your life to run

Away, hoping for better pastures new
greener they may be but really for you
of course you won't know until you try
it's up to you, I could just not buy

Such treatment if metered out myself
will leave a gap and room on my shelf
of important things that I have accomplished
no need not to feel neither loved nor cherished

For that is not really what love does mean
I've know enough friends to have foreseen
that being humble and modest can be my maxim
as part of plan in life to enjoy my freedom.

Oh if only I could be humble you say
that would indeed help make my day
what more would I need do or say
to be modest, unassuming, that's quite a way

Is to be humble to be submissive
that sounds like being somewhat compliant
I just want to be active
but would that be an affront

To the way that I live
I aim to be patient
at times I am pensive
but that may confront

Me, making me feel captive
and not so free or fluent
and indeed somewhat pensive
my life remaining dormant

I just don't do passive
I feel most ardent
I want to relive
my life to be brilliant

And active
not a figment
nor restive
just vibrant

Pride goes before a fall
doing so well, what a haul

My feelings might go AWOL
the shame would forestall
humiliated and now small
subdued, oh the gall
can my life I recall
and see the shortfall
nothing to rival
feeling an oddball

I must therefore forestall
my pride going for a fall

All best,
Martin
