Honesty Is Best For Our Self Respect And Self Acceptance

Honesty is best.

The best policy - and who can argue with that?

It may seem at times that we are being too truthful for our own good, but is this the case?

  • who do we try to fool by not being straight and open in our dealings - the other guy or us?
  • do we want to live a lie, even if a small one - how will that make us really feel?
  • or do we wish just to feel good about what we do and say?

If we are not true to ourselves what then?

  • what does that mean anyway?
  • if I do not know myself what does it matter?
  • others seem to be in better nick than me, but do I care?
  • no, I agree but how can I manage that?

How could we change this situation?

  • treat ourselves with greater respect and care
  • feel that we are worthy as human beings
  • go easy on ourselves
  • do not believe that we have to do everything, and
  • if we do want to do a lot, not do it all at once

give ourselves time to adjust to the life we have and its changing waves and rhythms.

What would be a good basis from which to start

  • develop good, firm and consistent values
  • have principles by which to act in life
  • try not to judge everything so harshly, including ourselves
  • try not to second guess everything that is occurring
  • respect other people, ourselves and what happens to us in life

How to take this all forward?

  • have faith in ourselves
  • develop a healthy self respect
  • have an image we can be proud of, by thinking and acting in ways that we approve of
  • act in a disciplined and controlled way (in control, not controlling - big difference)

At the end (beginning and middle) of any day we may realize that we have work to do in this area of our life.

May we not beat ourselves up over what needs to be done.

But know that by putting some effort in and wanting to become more - that we surely can.
