Dignity Has Meaning If We Understand What We Should Do - And Then Do It
Dignity has meaning and purpose. A shortish word but one of significance. How does it affect us? - we want to be treated well and with respect - and we need to reciprocate these feelings in our interactions with the people we meet and live with
- we want to be dealt with like any other person
- we want to be treated fairly, with thought and care
And we need to reciprocate these feelings toward others ourselves. This whole subject is applicable to us all. Not just the old or the ill. The middle aged, the young. And from whatever background or way of life. Treating others as you would like to be treated is a just and fair maxim. And hard to beat in the real and practical world. In interacting with others we need act with sensitivity and decorum. - not to have a bloated idea of our own self importance
- not to attack the pride or the efforts of others
- to remain composed in all situations
- not to be prejudiced
- not to discriminate
And - to understand that honor is understanding
- to be aware of other people's sensitivity
- to look out for other people and support them if the need arises
And - know that we are all born equal
- understand that there is little between any of us
- to support those who cannot look after themselves
- to assist those who unaware that they need it
And remain true to our own convictions. Should these convictions come into doubt then we need step back before lasing out with our tongue - and before knowing more about the situation. For it would be good to prompt any problems rather than let them grow and develop - after which they may become unstoppable.
