Conversion From Self Interest To Humility And Care Will Take A Real Effort
What is this conversion? Can I really transform myself from being a self-interested person, to one who respects themselves but also makes the time and puts the effort in to help and assist other people? Being self-absorbed may appear to be a good thing. We are balanced and focused - if only on ourselves. We may be active - but only to achieve our goals. We may communicate - but only our story and our agenda. But is this the way we would like it to be - and to stay? Change can be difficult as we all know. All the better when it can be planned and thought through - first. We may not mind some things changing, but those in which we have a vested interest may be too close to home for us. And we take things personally rather than being able to step back and see the benefits and the reasons for doing a particular thing or letting something happen in a particular way. Adaptation is essential in 21st Century life. Things are on the move so fast that we can easily be left behind. Some things we can leave for another day, perhaps when they are better developed or more suitable for our needs. Others need to be taken on board right now - and we may feel inadequately prepared for these encounters. We may be trying to reform something. Bring something up-to-date. And these situations bring their own challenges of mixing the old and the new. Remodeling is taken the essence of something and in a way tinkering with it. Refining it in the light of experience. Trying to improve something. Reorganization is just that. Taking the pieces of the puzzle and seeing the relationships between them in a new light. Perhaps starting with a clean slate. Perhaps trying to change on the fly - which may work or may just cause confusion and uncertainty and be changing things just for the sake of it. A change of heart is a big one. In the light of experience, knowledge gained, wisdom understood, and practical experience we decide now is the time. It feels good to do so. Conversions of any type are challenging for us. We often are happy as things are and comfortable at the same time. To change is to put us on the spot. To disturb or dismantle our comfort zone. And some of us take to this more easily than others. If it is a collective enterprise we need get all people on board. If it just affects us we need decide are we ready, willing and able to go ahead - or do we have no choice? The big ones are those that affect us personally. That we have a personal stake in. These really float those heart strings. Can cause a flutter or two. But may bring the greatest benefits and advances because we are personally motivated and tied in to the actions, the efforts involved and the end products. Trust in yourself and go for it. At times what have you to lose. Weigh up the gains and start. Conversion. You may be surprised at what you are able to do and achieve - and you will not find out unless you try.
